Services:
1) Thin section petrography - microscopic identification and description of mineral assemblages in polished natural crystalline rock (thin)-sections; includes modal estimates; grain size ranges; several photographs.2) Digital photography of minerals and rocks under the microscope, in different light settings (transmitted, reflected and cross-polarized light)3) Marking and documentation of target areas for electron microprobe analysis/SEM/Laser-Ablation-ICP-MS4) Electron microprobe analyses using semi-quantitative EDS (using a scanning electron microscope - SEM) or quantitative WDS analyses using an electron microprobe) – ask for availability and costs5) Processing of raw electron microprobe data including mineral formula calculation6) Evaluation, interpretation and plotting of mineral chemical data (electron microprobe analyses).
Credentials:
• Ph.D. in Mineralogy & Petrography from the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, Germany• Over 30 years’ experience in thin section petrography, optical mineralogy, electron microprobe analysis and mineral data processing & interpretation of various ore assemblages (particularly Ni-Cu-PGE, VMS, orogenic gold, SEDEX, BIF, porphyry and hydrothermal vein deposits), hydrothermal alteration, kimberlite indicator minerals and rare metals in carbonatites and alkaline rocks working for research scientists at Natural Resources Canada and provincial Geological Surveys as well as Canadian mining companies.• Sessional Lecturer in mineralogy and optical mineralogy (microscopy) at Ottawa University
